Magnolia Science Academy- Another "SHOW" sponsored by Gulen group Accord

Magnolia Public Schools will host the Sixth Annual MathMatters Contest for Fourth and Fifth Graders on January 29, 2011 at 10:00 am simultaneously at each of its eleven schools.  The day of the competitions will include fun and educational activities for students, followed by an awards ceremony at 11:30 a.m. attended by parents and local dignitaries.   The MathMatters competitions are designed to interest young minds and encourage success, while providing recognition for outstanding young mathematicians, their teachers and schools. The contests have become increasingly more popular in the past five years with more contestants participating each year. The schools that will host the competitions this year are: Magnolia Science Academy 2 - Valley Magnolia Science Academy 3 - Carson Magnolia Science Academy 5 - Hollywood Magnolia Science Academy 6 - Palms Magnolia Science Academy 8 - Bell Magnolia Science Academy - San Diego Magnolia Science Academy - Santa Clara Pacific Technology School - Orange County Pacific Technology School - Orangevale Bay Area Technology School - Oakland All those interested in attending must register as space is limited and the due date for registration is Jan 27. Online registration is available at http://mathmatters.accordeducation.org. Winners will be awarded a variety of prizes. The top winner will receive a Nintendo Wii Console, while the prize for second place is an iPod Touch and for third place is an iPod Nano. The first 20 runners up will also receive prizes while the teachers of the top three students will also be awarded gift certificates totalling $150, $100, and $50 respectively from Amazon.com. The Magnolia Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit Charter Management Organization (CMO), which has been running schools throughout California under the name of Magnolia Science Academy (MSA) or Pacific Technology School (PTS). Six of the schools are in the Los Angeles Unified District, one in the San Diego Unified District, while the two schools with statewide-benefit charters are in Orange County and Orangevale. The MSA schools operate under district or county charters, while the PTS schools are state-authorized. Magnolia opened four new schools this year.
